Working well with others
When we work together or collaborate on projects it can be useful to set out and state expectations clearly, right at the start.
Here is a list of conversation starters that you might find useful when negotiating how you plan to work with others:
What you should expect from a project lead:
- A welcoming and safe environment in which to work
- A clear introduction to the project, the work, and the role
- Clear instructions and briefing, with agreed, reasonable timescales and deadlines
- Fair and respectful treatment regardless of gender, sexual orientation, age, parental or marital status, disability, religion, race, ethnic or national origins, or socio/economic background
- That any out-of-pocket expenses will to be reimbursed by the Project Lead, if they are agreed in writing and in advance of any spending taking place.
- Appropriate recognition and appreciation of your contributions and accurate crediting wherever the work is showcased or promoted
- That all correspondence is replied to within a reasonable timeframe.
What a project lead should expect from you:
- That you will carry out your role to the best of your ability
- That you are aware of and act in accordance with any safety procedures that are provided to you
- That you will treat each other, and anyone you encounter as part of the project, fairly and with respect, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, age, parental or marital status, disability, religion, race, ethnic or national origins, or socio/economic background
- Should you require any out-of-pocket expenses, you will agree in writing and in advance of any spending taking place.
- That you will advocate for the work and the team behind it
- That you will be on time for all arranged engagements, and fully fit to work
- That you can be flexible and able to adapt to reasonable short-term change
- That you will seek help if you are uncertain of what is required or encounter any issues
- That all correspondence will be replied to within a reasonable timeframe.
